About this portrait

Woven from a stubborn hope — Apostle, Hope, desperate cases, Miracles, Martyrdom — this portrait honours the apostle the faithful call on when every other door has closed.

His own letter urges: “Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:21). Long confused with Judas the betrayer, and so left unasked, he became the patron of hopeless causes — the saint of last resort who has never been a last resort in vain. Close, it is hope in words; far, it is the face turned toward the impossible.
