About this portrait
Made from a life that knew every state — wife, mother, Augustinian nun, forgiveness, impossible causes, the thorn wound — this portrait honours the saint who forgave her husband’s murderers and became patroness of what cannot be done.
Her whole life answers the Lord’s word: “With men this is impossible: but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). Wife, widow, and at last the nun she had longed to be, marked on her brow by a thorn from the Crucified. With Saint Jude she is invoked for the hopeless.
