About this portrait
Woven from a joyful poverty — Poverty, Humility, the birds, the stigmata, Assisi, Brother Sun, rebuild my church — this portrait honours the merchant’s son who gave away everything to follow Christ crucified.
He took the Gospel at its word: “Go, sell what thou hast, and give to the poor” (Matthew 19:21). He preached to birds, wrote a canticle to creation, and bore the wounds of Christ in his own flesh.
